The background of this study is the importance of mathematical ability in basic education and the potential influence of cognitive ability on mathematical achievement. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research sample consisted of 40 grade V students. Data were collected through test instruments to measure cognitive ability and the ability to solve mathematical story problems. Data were analyzed using inferential statistical tests, including correlation and simple regression tests. The results of the study showed a positive and very strong relationship between cognitive ability and the ability to solve mathematical story problems. The correlation coefficient (r) of 0.97 indicates a very strong relationship. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.95 indicates that 95% of the variation in the ability to solve mathematical story problems can be explained by cognitive ability. Simple regression analysis also showed a significant positive relationship between the two variables. These findings confirm a significant relationship between cognitive ability and the ability to solve mathematical story problems in grade V students of SDN Serang 3. The higher the students' cognitive ability, the better their ability to solve mathematical story problems. These results underscore the importance of developing cognitive abilities in efforts to improve students' mathematics achievement in elementary schools.
