Low mathematics learning outcomes indicate the need for a learning approach that can improve understanding and problem-solving skills. This study aims to analyze the relationship between conceptual understanding and mathematical problem-solving skills in discovery learning. The theoretical framework used includes Piaget and Vygotsky's constructivism theory, Bruner's theory, Skemp's conceptual understanding theory, and Polya's problem-solving theory. This study employs a qualitative phenomenological approach with high, medium, and low-performing students as subjects, selected through tests and teacher consideration. Data collection techniques included tests, interviews, observations, documentation, and focus group discussions (FGD). The results showed that high-performing students mastered all conceptual understanding indicators and were able to solve problems completely and systematically. Moderate-performing students mastered most conceptual indicators but faced challenges in implementing solution plans and evaluating results. Meanwhile, low-performing students only mastered some indicators, particularly in restating concepts, and faced obstacles in nearly all stages of problem-solving. Thus, the higher the conceptual understanding students possess, the better their mathematical problem-solving abilities.
