This study explores the factors and challenges affecting 11th-semester English Education students at Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa in writing their research papers during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with 5 students from the 11th semester of 2018 class. The findings reveal that despite pandemic-related disruptions—such as limited access to academic resources, social isolation, and psychological stress—80% of students remained motivated to complete their thesis, driven by personal goals and long-term aspirations. During the pandemic, intrinsic motivation was characterized by a desire to achieve academic milestones, while extrinsic motivation often stemmed from familial expectations and social pressure. Post-pandemic, motivation shifted further toward intrinsic sources, with students aligning their research topics more closely with personal interests and ambitions. The perceived value of external rewards diminished, and 80% of students prioritized family obligations over academic recognition. Interviews further highlighted students’ adaptive strategies, such as breaking tasks into manageable steps, seeking emotional support, and maintaining digital communication with advisors. These strategies helped mitigate academic stress and sustain progress. Overall, the study underscores the enduring role of intrinsic motivation and the need for institutional support to help students navigate academic challenges in crisis and recovery periods. date: 2024 date_type: published pages: 101 institution: Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa department: Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris thesis_type: sarjana thesis_name: sarjana citation: Pragoza, Gigih Joeang (2024) ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS MOTIVATION IN WRITING RESEARCH PAPER DURING COVID-19 AND POST COVID-19 ON 11th SEMESTER OF ENGLISH DEPARTMENT OF UNIVERSITAS SULTAN AGENG TIRTAYASA.
