Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui efektifitas penerapan model Problem Based Learning (PBL) dengan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Think Pair Share (TPS) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan komunikasi matematis siswa SMP yang dilakukan di kelas IX SMP Negeri 13 Kota Serang. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen dengan desain non-equivalent pretest posttest control group. Sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling pada sebuah populasi dengan 30 siswa pada kelas eksperimen dan 30 siswa pada kelas kontrol. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan nilai rata-rata n-gain score sebesar 0,8068 dengan kategori tinggi. Kemudian uji normalitas dengan uji Kolmogorof Smirnov terhadap data pretest dan posttest dilihat dari uji normalitas yang diperoleh yaitu jika nilai signifikasi 0,086 > 0,05 pada data pretest termasuk normal. Sedangkan hasil posttest bersignifikasi 0,127 > 0,05 dan termasuk normal. Kemudian dilakukan uji independent sample t-test dengan nilai signifikansi 0,418 (H0 diterima) yang berarti terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara nilai pretest kelas ekperimen dan kelas kontrol. Selanjutnya Untuk menjawab hipotesis yang telah dirumuskan, maka dilakukan uji hipotesis. Uji hipotesis yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah independent sample t-test dengan nilai signifikansi yang diperoleh 0,001 < 0,05 yang berarti H0 ditolak. Hasil uji effect size mendapatkan hasil 1,108 yang berkategori tinggi.
