The background of this research stems from the significant percentage of early-grade students who still struggle with reading fluency, recognition of letters, and comprehension. These difficulties are often caused by phonological limitations, inadequate literacy exposure at home, and the use of conventional teaching methods that are not tailored to individual learning needs. Using a qualitative research design and a case study approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory classroom observations, and document analysis. The results demonstrate that the systematic implementation of drill teaching characterized by structured repetition and targeted reading exercises significantly improves students’ letter recognition, phonemic awareness, reading speed, and comprehension abilities. The method also increases student motivation and self-confidence in reading, especially when supported by engaging instructional materials and consistent feedback. Moreover, the success of this approach is reinforced by the active involvement of teachers and collaboration with parents in monitoring and supporting reading development at home. The study concludes that drill teaching is a highly practical and adaptable method for improving foundational literacy skills, particularly in contexts where students have limited access to educational resources.
