"In 2023, cardiovascular diseases remain one of the leading causes of high mortality rates worldwide. As an effort to address cardiovascular diseases, the placement of stents has become an increasingly common medical procedure in Indonesia. A stent is a small tube-shaped device inserted into blood vessels to keep them open, allowing smooth blood flow to the heart. Stainless steel 304 thin foil is commonly used as a stent material due to its biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and suitable mechanical properties. This material requires high tensile strength and elongation, as well as low yield strength to optimally support the stent's function. Therefore, these mechanical properties can be achieved through heat treatment.\r\n\r\nThis study aims to determine the effect of heat treatment temperature and holding time on the microstructure, yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, and surface roughness of stainless steel 304 thin foil. The research applies a quenching heat treatment at 750°C for 60 minutes, followed by ice water cooling, then tempering at temperatures of 500°C, 600°C, and 700°C for holding times of 30, 45, and 60 minutes, followed by ice water cooling. Microstructural observations, tensile testing, and surface roughness measurements were then conducted on the stainless steel 304 thin foil.\r\n\r\nThe results showed that the quenching and tempering processes, with variations in temperature and holding time, influenced the microstructure and grain size of the steel, resulting in a martensitic structure. These processes also affected the tensile properties of the stainless steel 304 thin foil, where tensile strength and yield strength tended to decrease with increasing temperature and holding time, while elongation increased. The formation of martensite and the increase in grain size led to a reduction in tensile and yield strength after tempering. The highest tensile strength and yield strength were recorded at 883.75 MPa and 545 MPa, respectively, at a temperature of 500°C with a holding time of 30 minutes. The highest elongation reached 43.10% at a temperature of 700°C with a holding time of 60 minutes. Surface roughness increased with rising tempering temperature and holding time, with the highest roughness of 0.8708 μm observed at 700°C and a holding time of 60 minutes."^^ .
