description: Translation is the most essential element in learning or understanding a foreign language. Novels are popular literary works commonly translated from Indonesian into foreign languages. This study aims to identify single translation techniques, couplet translation techniques and triplet translation techniques used in Indonesian and English interrogative sentence texts. The data obtained are based on interrogative sentence texts in the "Gadis Kretek" novel by Ratih Kumala and the translated novel "Cigarette Girl". The translation techniques analyzed are based on the translation theory approach, according to Molina and Albir (2002:509-511). Qualitative Descriptive is a research method used in this study to describe the data found with words rather than numbers. Data collection in this study was obtained by searching and taking notes in interrogative sentence texts in the two novel texts studied. The results of the research data analysis show  that 64 data were found. From the data, 46 data showed the use of single translation techniques, 16 data showed the use of couplet translation techniques, and 2 data showed the use of triplet translation techniques. Overall, the data found was dominated by literal translation techniques. However, in translating  interrogative sentences from Indonesian novels into English-translated novels,  some uses of words from the source language are maintained in the target  language, which can trigger errors.
