However, in reality, students’ mathematical reasoning ability remains low. One factor contributing to this issue is the use of less effective learning approaches. Therefore, an appropriate learning approach is needed to enhance this ability. As an alternative, the metacognitive approach is believed to be capable of improving students’ mathematical reasoning ability. The implementation of the metacognitive approach in learning trains students to plan, monitor, and evaluate their thinking abilities through metacognitive skills, such as providing guided questions. This approach also facilitates students in effectively achieving indicators of mathematical reasoning. The purpose of this study is to determine the improvement of students’ mathematical reasoning ability between those who received the metacognitive approach and those who did not. This research was conducted at MTs Negeri 5 Serang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The instruments in this study included a mathematical reasoning ability test and a student response questionnaire toward the metacognitive approach.
