Metode kuantitatif dengan desain quasi-eksperimental digunakan untuk penelitian ini. Peneliti memilih kelas VIII-A sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas VIII-F sebagai kelas eksperimen, dengan masing-masing kelas terdiri dari 30 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes membaca komprehensif berbentuk pilihan ganda, yang meliputi tes awal dan tes akhir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelas eksperimen memiliki skor rata-rata tes akhir 71,50, sedangkan kelas kontrol memperoleh skor rata-rata 65,33. Uji-T Independen menunjukkan nilai signifikansi dua sisi (p) sebesar 0,029, yang lebih rendah dari 0,05. Hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak, dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik Herringbone memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa di kelas delapan SMPN 10 Kota Serang. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa teknik Herringbone dapat diterapkan sebagai strategi pengajaran membaca yang efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan pemahaman membaca siswa. abstract: This study aimed to determine the effect of the Herringbone technique on the reading comprehension skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 10 Kota Serang. A quantitative method using a quasi-experimental design was employed for this research. The researcher selected class VIII-A as the control class and class VIII-F as the experimental class, with each class comprising 30 students. The data were collected through multiple-choice reading tests, which included a pre-test and a post-test. The result showed that the experimental class had an average post-test score of 71.50, while the control class scored an average of 65.33. The Independent T-test indicated a two-sided significance value (p) of 0.029, which was lower than 0.05. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Herringbone technique had a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension skills in the eighth grade of SMPN 10 Kota Serang.
