Interpersonal communication, as a crucial part of social interaction, plays a central role in resolving conflicts. However, many students prefer silent treatment despite having adequate academic backgrounds to communicate effectively. This study employs Heider's (1958) and Kelley's (1967) attribution theories to analyze the motives, intentions, and behavioral patterns of silent treatment based on the dimensions of distinctiveness, consensus, and consistency. The findings reveal that silent treatment is influenced by internal factors, such as the emotional characteristics of the individual, and external factors, including situational pressures like distance, meeting intensity, and differing schedules. Low distinctiveness was observed in informants who consistently used silent treatment, whereas high distinctiveness appeared among those who employed this strategy only in specific situations. Consensus varied; some informants perceived silent treatment as a common behavior, while others considered it a deviation. In terms of consistency, most couples exhibited stable patterns of using silent treatment to avoid conflict escalation. This study concludes that silent treatment serves as an adaptive strategy frequently used in long-distance relationships, although it has negative impacts, such as increasing anxiety and reducing relationship satisfaction. These findings are expected to provide insights for LDR couples to manage conflicts more constructively. date: 2025 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/1/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_Fulltext.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/2/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_CP.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/4/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_02.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/5/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_03.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/6/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_04.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/7/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_05.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/8/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_Ref.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/9/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_Lamp.pdf format: text language: en identifier: https://eprints.untirta.ac.id/49197/18/Neng%20Dian%20Andiyani_6662180143_01.pdf identifier: Andiyani, Neng Dian (2025) SILENT TREATMENT DALAM SITUASI KONFLIK PADA PASANGAN LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP (STUDI KASUS MAHASISWA ILMU KOMUNIKASI UNTIRTA 2018).
