High schools description: Writing language skills are considered difficult because they require the ability to express thoughts and feelings. This is influenced by conventional learning techniques that are teacher-centered. The Dictoglos technique is proposed as a learning method that involves listening to news texts, taking notes, and reconstructing together by students. This study aims to identify the difference in the ability to write news texts before and after using the Dictoglos technique and the effectiveness of the technique in grade VII students at SMP Negeri 3 Kota Serang. The research population is all students of grade VII of SMP Negeri 3 Serang City and the samples used are classes VII F and VII J which are determined by simple random sampling technique. Data analysis techniques To test the hypothesis is a t-test that was previously carried out to test the requirements of normality, and homogeneity. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the ability to write news texts between the experimental group that used the Dictoglos technique and the control group that did not use the technique. The results of the analysis proved that the Dictoglos technique was more effective, as evidenced by the paired sample t-test between the pretest and posttest scores of the experimental group, resulting in a t-count of -28.029 (or an absolute value of 28.029) and a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05.
