description: This study aims to determine the effect of operating capacity on financial distress with the role of manager overconfidence as a moderating variable. This study uses Agency Theory & Behavioral Finance Theory to explain the problem. The population in this study was conducted on companies in the basic materials, industrials, consumer non-cyclicals, and consumer cyclicals sectors listed on the IDX in 2018-2022. The sampling technique used in this study was the purposive sampling method with a total sample of 195 companies. The data analysis technique for this study used time-series cross-sectional pooled ordinary least squares regressions with standards error clustered by Firm and Year, with STATA v14 software. The results of the study indicate that operating capacity has a negative effect on financial distress, manager overconfidence has a negative effect on financial distress, and manager overconfidence can positively moderate the relationship between operating capacity and financial distress in companies in the basic materials, industrials, consumer non-cyclicals, and consumer cyclicals sectors listed on the IDX in 2018-2022.
