The researcher used quantitative research. The result of this study shows that the use of WhatsApp social media is in the medium category, as many as 33 students are the total number of respondents. The average score obtained is 39.39 in the good category. Motivation to learn English is known to be in the medium category. This is evidenced by the average value of 42.15 in the quality table using a standard scale of 5. And the use of WhatsApp social media has a 12% influence in terms of its relation to student learning motivation. Based on the result, it can be concluded that WhatsApp application was appropriate to be used for teaching English during the covid-19 pandemic at SMPN 1 Bojonegara.
