High schools description: This study aims to determine the effect of role playing learning model on historical empathy of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Bayah. The research method used in this research is quasi experimental method with Nonequivalent Control Group Design, which consists of experimental group and control group. The research population used was class XI of SMA Negeri 1 Bayah. From the population, the research sample was taken using purposive sampling technique, which is a sampling method with certain considerations, so that the research sample was obtained, namely class XI-4 as an experimental class using role playing learning model and class XI-6 as a control class using discovery learning model. There are four indicators of historical empathy in this study including making personal connections, imagination, willingness to listen and recognize other people's perspectives, and applying the values contained in historical events in everyday life. Data analysis used to prove the hypothesis using the independent sample t-test, with the criteria for success if the sig value. (2-tiled) < 0.05. From the test results obtained sig. (2-tiled) 0.042 <0.05 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an effect of using the role playing learning model on students' historical empathy. This shows that the ability of historical empathy of students using the role playing learning model is higher than the discovery learning model.
