description: This study aims to identify the types of student errors and their causes in solving word problems related to the system of linear equations in two variables (SPLDV) based on Newman’s method at PKBM BINTANG during the 2023/2024 academic year. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. Data collection was conducted through written tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were 26 eighth-grade students in the Paket B program at PKBM BINTANG. The results showed the percentage of errors made by students in solving word problems on SPLDV using Newman’s method as follows: (a) reading errors accounted for 10%,  (b) comprehension errors accounted for 33.07%, (c) transformation errors accounted for 45.38%, (d) process skill errors accounted for 41.53%, and (e) final answer writing errors accounted for 42.3%. The causes of these errors include hastiness in reading the questions, lack of attention to detail when working on answers, inability to transform statements into mathematical forms, insufficient practice in solving word problems related to SPLDV material, and rushing through the problem-solving process.
