description: The need for corn is increasing, and one of the efforts made to increase corn productivity is by modifying plant growth such as defoliation. Defoliation is the removal of leaves on corn plants, especially unproductive ones. The purpose of this research is to determine the growth response and yield of corn plants (Zea mays subsp. mays L.) to leaf defoliation at certain ages. The method used in this research is an experimental method using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of one factor with five levels, where control (without defoliation treatment); leaf defoliation at 30 DAP; leaf defoliation at 40 DAP; leaf defoliation at 50 DAP; leaf defoliation at 60 DAP. The factor repeated three times, resulting in 15 experimental units. The research results show that the optimal age for defoliating corn plants is 30 days after planting (DAP) when the plants enter the vegetative phase. Defoliation treatment significantly affects plant height from 42-80 DAP and corn yield components such as ear weight without husk, weight of 100 dry seeds, actual plot yield of corn, and potential yield of corn land. However, defoliation treatment does not significantly affect plant height from 14-35 DAP, stem diameter, and the yield component of the number of ears.
