description: This study discusses content production with data-driven approach in online media (study on BBC News online media). The evolution of digital technology has changed the media landscape significantly. The presence of big data has empowered journalists to conduct in-depth and comprehensive coverage. This study aims to determine content production with data-driven approach, especially on BBC News as one of the data-based media. This study uses media ecology theory, qualitative descriptive approach, with in-depth interview data collection techniques, observation, and documentation study. The informants of this study are the BBC News East Asia Visual and Data Journalism team. The results of the study show that the process of creating data journalism at BBC News goes through general stages starting from data collection (compile) obtained through primary data sources, secondary data, and tertiary data, the data cleaning process (clean) using spreadsheets and the R and Python programming languages, the context adjustment process (context) determining the news perspective based on original research and driven by the news approach, the data merging process (combine) combining two or more data, and the data presentation process (communicate) paying attention to the use of visualization based on short-term and long-term projects. BBC News shows flexibility in implementing these stages, adjusting the characteristics of the data.
