The synthesis of Fe3O4/Chitosan was successfully carried out using the coprecipitation method with a mass variation of Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:1 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:1)), Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:2 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:2)), Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:3 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:3)), and Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:4 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:4)). The characterization results show that the addition of chitosan can increase the particle size and phase composition of γ-Fe2O3. In addition, the addition of chitosan to Fe3O4 nanoparticles brings new functional groups and causes the particles to be more dispersive. Analysis of magnetic properties shows that there is a decrease in saturation magnetization as chitosan increases and shows soft ferromagnetic properties. Optical analysis shows Fe3O4/Chitosan has the ability to absorb light in the UV to visible light range, supporting its application as a photocatalyst. Congo red degradation tests were conducted by varying the wavelength, power, and dark and UV light conditions. The degradation results showed the highest efficiency of 98.3% by Fe3O4/Chitosan (4:3) under dark conditions in 90 minutes.
