note: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki dampak dari materi otentik dan konteks dunia nyata, dan memeriksa dampak dari kegiatan berbicara dalam pengajaran berbasis konten terhadap kemahiran bahasa dan pemahaman konten siswa di kelas 8 di SMPN 1 Cilegon. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif dan desain studi kasus. Peneliti menggunakan pengambilan sampel sistematis untuk memilih sampel yang representatif dari populasi yang lebih besar (Yan & Bava Harji, 2023). Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara terstruktur yang bersifat terbuka. Wawancara dilakukan dengan 20 peserta dari siswa kelas 8, dan terdapat 20 pertanyaan yang terdiri dari pengalaman belajar bahasa siswa, tantangan dan strategi linguistik, kemahiran berbahasa dan keterlibatan konten, kemahiran berbicara dan kekhususan tugas, penilaian kemajuan dan keterampilan berbicara, respons emosional terhadap berbicara, motivasi dan relevansi topik, umpan balik dan partisipasi di masa depan, kecemasan dan persiapan mental, dan pengaruh budaya dan pengalaman. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik (Miles & Huberman, 2014). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah proses SCBI di dalam kelas menunjukkan peningkatan progresif dalam keterlibatan siswa, kepercayaan diri, dan penggunaan bahasa dari waktu ke waktu. Pengamatan awal menunjukkan adanya tantangan seperti ketergantungan pada bahasa ibu dan tingkat kenyamanan yang berbeda-beda dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Banyak siswa mengalami kecemasan terkait berbicara di depan umum, yang secara efektif dikelola melalui persiapan dan strategi adaptif seperti pernapasan dalam dan latihan mental.
abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the impact of authentic materials and real-world contexts, and examine the impact of speaking activities within content-based instruction on students' language proficiency and content comprehension at the 8th grade in SMPN 1 Cilegon. The researcher used qualitative methods and a case study design. The researcher used a systematic sampling to select a representative sample from a larger population (Yan & Bava Harji, 2023). In collecting data, the researcher used observation, documentation and structured interviews that were open-ended. The Interview was held with 20 participants from 8th grade students, and There were 20 questions which consisted of the students’ language learning experiences, linguistic challenges and strategies, language proficiency and content engagement, speaking proficiency and task specificity, progress assessment and speaking skills, emotional responses to speaking, motivation and topic relevance, feedback and future participation, anxiety and mental preparation, and cultural and experiential influence. The data was analyzed using (Miles & Huberman, 2014) techniques. The result of this study is the process of SCBI in the classroom showed a progressive improvement in student engagement, confidence, and language use over time. Initial observations indicated challenges such as a reliance on the mother tongue and varying levels of comfort in using English. Many students experienced anxiety related to public speaking, which was effectively managed through preparation and adaptive strategies such as deep breathing and mental rehearsal.
