description: Social control is a process of control and supervision so that individuals   behave in accordance with the norms that apply in society. The purpose of this study   is to describe the social control exercised by parents on adolescent smartphone   users in Mekarsari Village and to find out the impact of smartphone use on   adolescents. The theory used in this research is Travis Hirschi's social control   theory. The method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive method.   Researchers collected data through observation, interview and documentation   techniques. Furthermore, the data analysis techniques used in this study are data   reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The selection of informants   in this study used purposive sampling technique. The informants involved totaled 9   people consisting of key informants, namely parents and adolescents and   supporting informants, namely community leaders and the surrounding community.   The results of the study found that the attachment between parents and children was   reduced due to the use of smartphones in adolescents (attachment), adolescents did   not involve smartphones in a positive form, causing deviant attitudes such as being   introverted and the involvement of parents only asked about activities being carried   out by adolescents in using smartphones and the role of the surrounding community   only provided input and suggestions (involvement), regulation and sanctions given   by parents were low (commitme).
