description: This research is motivated by the large number of Sundanese ethnic communities   in Pandeglang Regency with their diverse cultural heritage. The study aims to (a)   describe the lexicons used in the Sundanese traditional wedding ceremonies of   Huap Lingkung and Sawer Panganten in Pandeglang Regency and (b) describe   the cultural meanings embedded in these ceremonies. The research employs a   qualitative descriptive method with an ethnolinguistic approach. Data collection   techniques include the speaking method using the stimulus-based elicitation  technique and the advanced face-to-face elicitation technique. Additionally, the   observation method is applied using the basic recording technique and the   advanced non-participatory observation technique. The data sources for this   study are transcriptions of interviews conducted with informants regarding the   lexicons and cultural meanings in the Sundanese traditional wedding ceremonies.   The analytical technique utilized in this study is the extralingual equivalent   method with the basic technique of Pilah Unsur Penentu (PUP) (componential   analysis) and the advanced Hubung Banding Membedakan (HBB) (comparative   contrastive) technique. Based on participant observations and in-depth   interviews, 23 lexicon data were identified. These can be categorized as follows:   (a) Lexicons in the Huap Lingkung ceremony consisted of 12 items, including 4   monomorphemic words, 1 polymorphemic word, 4 verbal phrases, and 3 nominal   phrases. (b) Lexicons in the Sawer Panganten ceremony consisted of 11 items,   including 5 monomorphemic words, 1 polymorphemic word, 1 verbal phrase, and   4 nominal phrases. Other findings indicate that there are 16 instances of cultural   meanings embedded in the Huap Lingkung and Sawer Panganten ceremonies in   Pandeglang Regency. The cultural meanings conveyed through these lexicons are   believed by the Sundanese ethnic community in Pandeglang Regency to reflect   high values that represent their worldview and perspectives on life. These   meanings symbolize the community’s hopes for marital life. Furthermore, the   cultural meanings also signify the interconnectedness between humans and the   divine, as well as between humans and nature.
