Kemasan plastik yang beredar di masyarakat merupakan kemasan plastik sintetis yang memiliki kemampuan terurai yang rendah, sehingga berdampak buruk bagi lingkungan. Dampak buruk ini mendorong berbagai upaya untuk mengurangi penggunaannya, salah satunya melalui pengembangan kemasan biodegradable. Biodegradable film merupakan jenis kemasan yang mudah terurai oleh mikroorganisme. Biodegradable film dengan bahan dasar pati umumnya memiliki sifat fisik dan mekanik yang rendah, sehingga perlu ditambahkan bahan pengisi berupa selulosa dari Gracilaria sp. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penambahan selulosa Gracilaria sp. terhadap sifat fisik dan mekanik, menentukan konsentrasi selulosa Gracilaria sp. yang dipilih untuk menghasilkan biodegradable film terbaik, serta mengetahui kemampuan biodegradasi biodegradable film dengan konsentrasi selulosa yang berbeda. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) satu faktor yang terdiri dari lima taraf konsentrasi Gracilaria sp. yaitu 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, dan 10%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata setiap parameter biodegradable film yaitu ketebalan 0,029 - 0,082 mm, kuat tarik 18,8 - 25,82 MPa, perpanjangan 1,54 - 5,7%, ringan (L*) 84,15 - 84,7, a* -0, 05 - -0,3, b* 4,8 - 5,8, densitas 1,78 - 2,40 g/cm3 , WVTR 7,18 - 14,61 g/(m2 jam), WHC 7,36 - 10,54 g/g, dan OHC 8,32 - 9,4 g/g, pada hari ke-7 sampel menjadi getas dan hampir mengalami degradasi secara sempurna. Penambahan selulosa Gracilaria sp. berpengaruh nyata terhadap semua parameter kecuali L*. Perlakuan yang menghasilkan film biodegradable terbaik adalah variasi konsentrasi selulosa Gracilaria sp. 10%. abstract: There are tons of plastic waste in Indonesia, which includes food packaging. Plastic packaging who distributed in public is synthetic which has ability to decompose poorly, so this has bad impact for environment. This adverse impact has led various efforts to reduce its use, one of them is through development of biodegradable packaging. Biodegradable film is type of package that easily decomposed by microorganisms. Biodegradable film with starch based generally have low physical and mechanical characteristics, so it needed to add filler such as cellulose from Gracilaria sp. The aim of this research was to determine effect of addition of cellulose Gracilaria sp. on physical and mechanical characteristics, to determine cellulose concentration of Gracilaria sp. selected to produce the best biodegradable film, and to determine the biodegradation ability of biodegradable film with cellulose concentration. The research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) one factor which consisted of five levels of Gracilaria sp. concentration, that is 0%, 1%, 3%, 5%, and 10%. Results showed the average value of each parameter biodegradable film, such as thickness 0,029 – 0,082 mm, tensile strength 18,8– 25,82 MPa, elongation 1,54 – 5,7%, lightness (L*) 84,15 – 84,7, a* -0,05 – -0,3, b* 4,8 – 5,8, density 1,78 – 2,40 g/cm3 , WVTR 7,18 – 14,61 g/(m2 h), WHC 7,36 – 10,54 g/g, and OHC 8,32 – 9,4 g/g, on the 7th day, samples became brittle and almost degradated perfectly. The addition of Gracilaria sp. cellulose significantly affected all parameters except L*.
