To know the students’ difficulties in learning writing descriptive text, by documentation and questionnaire and to know students’ expectations in learning writing descriptive text by interviews. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a case study design. The participants in this research are seventh grade students of VII-A it consist of 20 students. The results of this research is the researcher found among the writing components, such as organization, vocabulary, grammar, mechanics and content, vocabulary is considered the most difficult one in writing descriptive text at SMPIT Widya Cendekia. Based on the result of the highest percentage from each indicator, the main difficulty in writing descriptive text was vocabulary, it was 84%. Besides that, students also have expectation in learning writing descriptive text.
