These two metals exhibit distinct thermal properties, with aluminum having a melting point of 600°C and copper 1083°C, necessitating a precise joining method. Rotary friction welding emerges as a suitable solution for this process, offering advantages such as the elimination of filler materials, cost-effectiveness, and a relatively short processing time. This research aimed to investigate the impact of friction time and forging time on the mechanical properties, microstructure, and interface width of joints produced through rotary friction welding. The research involved sample preparation, welding process, tensile testing, hardness testing, and microstructural analysis. Results indicated that increasing the friction time led to an improvement in tensile strength. Conversely, extending the forging time beyond the point of maximum stress resulted in a decrease in tensile strength due to the embrittlement of the joint. The influence of friction time and forging time on the interface width revealed that a wider interface correlated with higher tensile strength. A broader interface suggested a greater dissolution of aluminum and copper particles within the joint, resulting in a more homogeneous microstructure and reduced likelihood of welding defects. Additionally, increasing the forging time led to a finer microstructure near the joint, resulting in a denser particle arrangement. Based on this research, the optimal parameters were determined to be a friction time of 6 seconds and a forging time of 1 second, yielding a maximum tensile strength of 157 MPa.
