The main objective of this research is to learn more about the ways in which parents from underprivileged backgrounds in Kampung Nagara Pandeglang instill religious and moral principles to their children. The research strategy used is a qualitative case study approach that uses observation, interviews and documentation to gather its findings. This research uses Robert K. Merton's functional structural theory. Two supporting informants were interviewed for this research: RT and local residents in the Nagara Village area; as well as key informants, namely parents and children from underprivileged families in this village. The study found that parents from low-income families make efforts to teach their children religious and character values, such as by sending them to local religious education programs, modeling good behavior, and giving good advice. Despite the latent functions on this research – where the parents in underprivileged families in Nagara Village are less than optimal in providing character education to their children because they are so focused on economic fulfillment - the manifest functions of these families in character education of religious values in children are still running.
