The research method used is the Research and Development (R&D) research method with Borg and Gall research design modified into six stages consisting of: (1) conducting needs analysis; (2) planning; (3) developing the first draft of teaching materials; (4) initial field trials; (5) revising the first draft of teaching materials; and (6) main field trials. As a result, the findings of this study revealed that students struggled to understand the structure, language, and context of writing, which contributed to their poor writing abilities. Thus, students required web-based learning medium to learn English, particularly the ability to write recount texts. Second, the web-based media production process progressed well, and the resulting product was named smart writing recount text. Third, the quality of the resulting product is valid based on media expert the product gets a total score of 86.67%, material expert the product gets a total score of 77.33%, and student assessment in the main field testing obtained 82.52%.
