In social exchange theory, human relationships are likened to mutually beneficial economic exchanges. Ineffective communication can lead to suboptimal relationships between the midwife and the patient, which may decrease the quality of healthcare services and cause the midwife to make errors when delivering information. This, in turn, may affect the patient’s satisfaction during the service period. This study aims to determine the impact of communication between midwives and patients on patient satisfaction. The study uses a descriptive cross-sectional analysis method, with accidental sampling applied to a sample of 96 respondents. The results show that midwife-patient communication has a significant impact on patient satisfaction, with an average significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Overall, the study concludes that social exchanges between midwives and patients during communication influence patient satisfaction. Each stage of communication is a factor that patients consider when deciding whether to continue or discontinue their relationship with the midwife. It is recommended that healthcare professionals, especially midwives, establish good relationships through effective communication with all their patients.
