description: Hydrogel are macromolecular hydrophilic polymer that have cross linking network. Hydrogel has the ability to absorb and release water content periodically. In this research hydrogel was made using Carboxymethyl Celulose (CMC) and Polivinyl Alcohol (PVA) with citric acid as crosslinking agent. CMC are made from synthesis corncob cellulose, which is known to have high cellulose. The main aim of this research is to determine the effect of citric acid concentration as crosslinking agent on the characteristics of hydrogel. The step of preparation hydrogel are include preparing corn cobs as main material, extracting cellulose from corn cobs, synthesizing CMC, produce hydrogel, and characterization of hydrogel. The optimum result was achieved at citric acid concentration 15%, with a swelling ratio of 3,70 and a gel fraction of 88%. Based on FTIR test results, it shows that the polymer crosslinking process was successful, and hydrogel with a PVA concentration of 15% has a porous surface with a regular structure.
