description: A traffic accident is an event or incident that is very undesirable for all road users, involving vehicles with or without other road users, and resulting in material losses and casualties that cannot be measured in any form. The Jakarta Highway has heavy traffic and causes many traffic accidents. Based on accident data from the Serang Regency POLRES, the number of accidents was quite high, namely 119 incidents during 2018 - 2021 in Cikande District, Kragilan District and Ciruas District. So it is important to know the characteristics and material losses so that traffic accidents can be seen as something serious. This research aims to determine the characteristics and costs of traffic accidents on the Jakarta Highway in Cikande District, Kragilan District and Ciruas District. The characteristic analysis method uses a quantitative descriptive method and the accident cost analysis method uses the Gross Output (Human Capital) method. In Cikande District, traffic accidents often occur in dark conditions at 18.00-23.59 with human factors being the cause.Meanwhile, in Kragilan District, traffic accidents often occur in bright conditions between 06.00-11.59, with human factors being the cause. Then in Ciruas District,traffic accidents often occur in dark conditions at 00.00-05.59 with human factors being the cause. Material losses can increase based on the level of traffic accidents at that location. Apart from the level of traffic accidents, the number of traffic accidents can also increase material losses.
