The raw materials chosen are raw materials that are not for consumption and are cheap, such as used cooking oil. The catalyst chosen is a heterogeneous catalyst because it is environmentally friendly and easy to separate, thereby reducing production costs. Rice husk is a catalyst that has the potential to be used as a catalyst by combining TiO2 photocatalyst which can be used in the synthesis of biodiesel from used cooking oil. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of variable reactant ratio, catalyst weight, UV light, and reusability of rice husk/TiO2 photocatalyst on biodiesel yield as well as biodiesel characteristics (density and viscosity) in accordance with SNI. The method used in this research is the preparation and synthesis of silica from rice husks and impregnation with TiO2. The rice husk/TiO2 photocatalyst was characterized using XRD and SEM-EDS. Catalyst performance tests were carried out on biodiesel synthesis using ratios of oil to methanol of 1:4, 1:6, and 1:8 and a catalyst weight of 4%, 7%, and 10% of the total oil weight (w/w) and reuse of the catalyst up to twice reuse. The resulting biodiesel was analyzed for density and viscosity. Then the biodiesel produced under the best conditions is analyzed using GC-MS. The best conditions for making biodiesel in this research were a reactant mole ratio of 1:6 with a rice husk/TiO2 photocatalyst concentration of 7% using UV light.
