description: The mass media is evolving and extending into social media as a bridge for communication and information, also serving its function as an early warning system for the community in natural disaster events. This research aims to determine the extent of the relation of the variable exposure to natural disaster news on social media (X) on the variable social participation of students (Y). The study utilizes media dependency theory, stating that media dependency is directly proportional to media effects; the greater someone’s dependence on media, the greater the effects produced by that media. The research method involves explanatory quantitative analysis with a survey technique. Spearman Rank analysis is used for hypothesis testing in the study. The results showed that exposure to natural disaster news on social media had a significant relation with students' social participation, as shown by the calculation results with a significance value of 0.00 < α (0.05) and a correlation value of 6.55, indicating a strong relation between the variables of exposure to natural disaster news on social media (X) and students’ social participation (Y).
