The fluctuation of mackerel catch is feared to lead to overexploitation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the potential sustainable catch, determine the best model, and establish the optimal scenario. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. The research utilized statistical data on capture fisheries from 2008-2022 in PPN Karangantu. The models used in this research are Schaefer 1954, Fox 1970, Walter-Hilborn 1976 first and second method models. The maximum sustainable yield for mackerel catches (Y_MSY) in Karangantu is 195 tons with full exploitation status (88%). While the maximum sustainable yield of fishing effort (F_MSY) is 11256 trips with an overexploitation status (118%). The best management scenario utilizes the model of 1976 Walter-Hilborn second method with the management allocation, specifically setting the effort in 2023-2032 equal to the F_MSY, which is 10186 trips. Thus, the best model in this study for assessing mackerel stocks in PPN Karangantu using data from 2008 - 2022 is the Schaefer model. Although the coefficient of determination of the Schaefer model is only 34%, it is expected to be analyzed with another model that has a better R-squared value and fits the data conditions.
