Abstract

In Indonesian, there are a lot of lessons that should be learnt by the students. One of them is appreciation of the short story, especially in understanding the intrinsic and ekstrinsik factors. Based on that reason, the researcher used monopoly game as an alternative media of teaching to increase the students ability in understanding short story. The research was purposd to find out the ability of students in experiment class to understanding the short story by using monopoly game as media and the ability of students in control class to understanding short story by using film as media. The researcher used Quasi Experiment Design by using non equivalent grup pretest posttest as the research method. The population of this research was the students of SMK Al-Insan Cilegon and the samples were the students of XII AK as experiment class and the students of XII TP as control class. Data for this research game from writing test, pretest and posttest. To analyze the data, it’s used t-test for two samples. The result showed that the mean score of the students in experiment class was 80 which is stayed at good category, but the mean score of the students in control class was 69,57, which also stayed at good category it means there was significant difference between experiment and control class in understanding of short story. It can be said that monopoly game media is effective in increaring the ability of the students in experiment class to understand the short story. Based on the result, the researcher suggests the teachers to use monopoly game as one of alternative media in teaching to increase the students ability in understanding short story.
