Abstract
This research aimed to improve students’ cognitive learning result and learning activity through demonstrative method on social science subject of technology growth material. This research was a classroom action research which required two cycles. Cycle I was conducted on April 9-16, 2015. While, Cycle II lasted on April 23-30, 2015. Each cycle was done in four stages: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The data collecting technique used was written test which contained of 5 essay questions. Based on the research, the improvement was seen from students’ cognitive learning result and learning activity. Students’ score improved in each cycle. In the pre-cycle, students got 64.61 as their mean score with the percentage 44.11%. Then, in the cycle I the students got 76.76 with the percentage 73.52%. The students’ learning result improvement in cycle II reached 83.29 as their mean score with the percentage 91.18% in standard minimum score criterion 65. Besides, the learning activity also showed the improvement in each cylce. In cycle I, students’ learning activity showed the percentage 69.4%. Then, in cycle II the improvement was seen with the percentage 94.4%. It can be concluded that the application of demonstrative method can improve students’ learning result and learning activity on social science of technology growth material at the fourth grade of SDN Serang 8. | Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa dan aktivitas belajar siswa dengan menggunakan metode demonstrasi pada mata pelajaran IPS. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Siklus I berlangsung pada tanggal 9 dan 16 April 2015, sementara itu siklus II berlangsung pada tanggal 23 dan 30 April 2015. Setiap siklusnya dilakukan dalam empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan tes tertulis yang terdiri dari 5 soal uraian (esai). Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan terlihat peningkatan hasil belajar siswa dan aktivitas belajar siswa. Hasil belajar siswa mengalami peningkatan pada setiap siklusnya. Pada pra siklus perolehan rata-rata hasil belajar siswa yaitu 64,61 dengan persentase ketuntasan 44,11%. Selanjutnya pada siklus I mendapatkan nilai rata-rata 76,76 dengan persentase sebesar 73,52%. Peningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada siklus II mencapai perolehan nilai rata-rata 83,29 dengan persentase 91,18 % dengan kriteria ketuntasan minimal 65. Selain itu, aktivitas belajar siswa juga mengalami peningkatan di setiap siklus. Pada siklus I aktivitas siswa mendapat persentase sebesar 69,4%. Kemudian pada siklus II terjadi peningkatan aktivitas belajar siswa dengan persentase sebesar 94,4%. Simpulan yang dapat diambil dari penelitian ini bahwa dengan penerapan metode demonstrasi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dan aktivitas belajar siswa pada mata pelajaran IPS di kelas IV SDN Serang 8.
