Abstract

Refrigerator in everyday life is a basic need of every person. Electric energy saving measures in the refrigerator compressor motors contribute to the reducing the use of fossil fuels. One method for saving electric energy consumption of compressor is adjust motor speed according to the conditions set temperature refrigerator cabinet using a variable frequency drive (VFD). The results of simulation using MATLAB Simulink R2014b software on a system without VFD compressor motor voltage obtained 219.8 Volt, 3.58 Ampere current, motor efficiency 85.43%, Coefficient Of Performance (COP)actual 4.03, COPideal 4.24, refrigerator efficiency 95.04% and the compressor motor electrical energy consumption for one day while setting the temperature of the refrigerator cabinet -2 o C, 2 o C, 5 o C was 1,120 Kwh, 0.846 Kwh and 0.725 Kwh. Then the motor compressor systems using VFD when the output frequency of 25 Hz voltage of 100.4 volts result, current 1.842 Ampere, the motor efficiency of 39.16%, the COPactual 6.19, COPideal 6.29 and refrigerator efficiency of 98.4%, while the current frequency of 40 Hz was obtained 160.7 Volt, current 1.842 Ampere, the motor efficiency of 80.1%, COPactual 4.41, COPideal 4.60 and refrigerator efficiency 95.8%. The energy consumption of the system using a VFD for one day with the settings -2 o C, 2°C, 5°C is 0.8915 Kwh 0.705 Kwh and 0.644 Kwh. Saving energy with each condition when setting -2 vii o C was 18.3%, 2°C was 18.4% and 5°C was 12%. Keyword : Refrigerator, compressor motors, energy saving, variable frequency drives.
