Abstract
The objective of this research is to find out the influence of using semantic mapping toward students‟ reading comprehension in descriptive text at the seventh grade of SMPN 1 Labuan. The researcher used quantitative research by using quasi experimental design for conducting the research. The subject of this research is the seventh grade students‟ of SMPN 1 Labuan. The subject of this research used cluster random sampling, which consist of two classes. The experimental class is 7A and 7E as control class with 30 students in each class. The instrument of this research is test, there are pre-test and post-test that given to both class. Before giving pre-test and post-test, the researcher conducted try-out test in other class to know if the instrument that used in pre-test and post-test is valid and reliable as research instrument. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used t-test as formulas to know the influence of using semantic mapping in descriptive text toward students reading comprehension, it means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The result of this research, shown that by using Semantic Mapping Technique has 0.287 medium improvement effect based on the scale of effect size.
