Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the influence of pictures toward students’ ability in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. In conducting the research, the researcher used quantitative research by applying true experimental design. The population of this research was the eighth grade students of SMPN 17 Kota Serang. The sample was chosen by using cluster random sampling and was divided into experimental class and control class. Each class consists of 40 students. Pre-test was given to both classes. Then the treatment was given to experimental and control classes but in the different ways. To find the influence, post-test was given to both classes. The researcher used content validity and inter-rater reliability to measure the validity and reliability of the instruments. In testing the hypothesis the researcher used ttest as formula. The calculation showed the result of was higher than (6.29 >1.99) with the significance 0.05 (5%). It was indicated that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, there was an influence of pictures toward students’ ability in writing descriptive text at the eighth grade of SMPN 17 Kota Serang.
