Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the effectiveness of crossword puzzle game toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Kota Serang. This research used quantitative approach with true experimental research design of the research. The populations of this research were 840 students of tenth grade in SMK 1 Kota Serang and the sample were the students of X AK 3 as experimental class and X AK 4 as control class. The classes were chosen by cluster random sampling from tenth class. In collecting the data, the researcher conducted pre-test and post-test consisting of 20 multiple choice items. In analyzing the data, the writer used T-test. The result of the calculation showed that in the significance degree of 5% is t count (42.58) is higher than t table (1.99).It means the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and it can be seen that the average gained score of the experimental class is higher than those of control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that Crossword Puzzle game is more effective on the students’ vocabulary mastery at tenth grade students at SMKN 1 Kota Serang.
