Abstract
CBR test is well known in the many construction projects in Indonesia. Even, it has become a standard test to asses the soil strength. But, it is rather slow in mobility and operational, therefore the test is less used by the contractors who work on the road, soil stability and landfill projects. Behind the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test, as the alternative method to obtain the data of soil strength, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) is also used. DCP test equipment is quite cheep, accurate, and fast in mobility and operational. However, output from DCP test is not value of CBR but value of DCP (mm/blow), thus DCP must be correlated with CBR. Previously many similar researches also conducted to discover the correlation of them. So,this research aims to increase the correlation between DCP and CBR, in particular for laterite soil. This research is applied on the sample of unsoaked soil that taken from three places of sampling. Those are the three different districts in Cilegon Regency, Banten Province. Compaction is conducted by standard proctor method. The result of CBR and DCP test on the sample are correlated till obtained the similarity of correlation value of DCP-CBR. Furthermore, the result is compared with previous researches. Cilegon laterite soil, based on the soil clarification of USCS, are MH type of soil (an-organic silt, high plasticity). The result of CBR and DCP test are displayed in graphic form with equation of Log (CBR) = 2,588 - 1,14 log (DCP) with the coefficient of correlation R2 = 0.9984. Based on the result of formula, the CBR value can be correlated with DCP value for laterite soil. The laterite soil is clarified as clay that there have been many researches of CBR and DCP correlation value of the type of clay.
