Abstract
This research is aimed to describe the types of errors made by the students at the eleventh grade of SMA Ardaniah Islamic Boarding School on descriptive writing and to describe the causes of errors made by the students at the eleventh grade of SMA Ardaniah Islamic Boarding School on descriptive writing. The researcher used descriptive method with qualitative research. The researcher was analyzed the data by Surface Strategy Taxonomy to classify the types of errors and sources of errors. The instrument of this research was students’ documents and questionnaire. The researcher identified and classified the types of errors and classified the causes of errors. After collected the data, the researcher identified, classified, explained, and evaluated the types of errors and classified the causes of errors. The result of this research showed that there are 4 types error on their descriptive writing. The types of errors were Misformation, Omission, Addition and Misordering. The total of errors were 256 errors, 50.0% Misformation, 23.8% Omission, 13.3% Addition and 12.9% Misordering. According to the data analysis, the common error made by the students were misformation and the internal factor was a dominant factor that provided the students’ errors.
