Abstract

ABSTRACT Land Suitability Evaluation for Aceh Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) Plant Cultivation in Dry Land of Petir, Serang District, Banten Province Patchouli plant (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) is one of the important essential oil producing plants, contribute to foreign exchange more than 50% of the total exports of essential oil in Indonesia. Potential of dry land in Banten is quite extensive, so it can be used for plant cultivation, including is Aceh Patchouli plants. Land suitability is needed to increase productivity of Patchouli plants. The aim of this research was to examine land suitability class, limiting factor, and efforts to improve land suitability class of Aceh Patchouli plants. This research used descriptive type. This research was conducted in dry land of Petir sub district, Serang District, Banten Province on October 2018 to June 2019. Implementation of this research consisted by 5 steps, that was: steps of preparation and collecting secondary data, drafting of land unit maps, collecting primary data, analysis of land suitability, and making maps of land suitability. The results showed land suitability class for Aceh Patcholi plants that was: in Petir sub-district moor and mixed garden were quite suitable (S2) and vacant land according to marginal (S3). Limiting factors for aceh patchouli cultivation in Petir sub district i.e : water availability, oxygen availability, nutrient retention, and nutrient availability. Land improvement efforts for aceh patchouli cultivation in Petir sub district i.e : making terraces and plant strips, making drain irrigation, making drainage system, giving organic material and fertilizing.
