Abstract

This research aims to develop a local content-based WordPress media for teaching reading in English subject. Research and Development design proposed by Borg and Gall (1983) was adapted in this study through the employement of seven steps in R&D cycle. The steps of this research were first, research and information collecting ; second, planning ; third, developing preliminary product ; fourth, preliminary field testing; fifth, main product revision ; sixth, main field testing ; and seven, operational product revision. The objectives of this research were first, to find out the students’ learning needs of tenth-grade students especially in reading. Second, to find out the process of developing local content WordPress-based media. Third, to find out the quality of local content WordPress-based media for teaching reading. Senior High School 1 Ciruas was chosen as the research site. Two types of data were collected in this research, qualitative data and quantitative data. Qualitative data were gained from semi-structured interview and open-ended questionnaire. Quantitative data were collected from expert judgment and students’ assessment. In analysing the qualitative data by using Miles and Huberman (2014), meanwhile for qualitative data they were analyse by using descriptive statistic by Freedman (2005). Accordingly, this research revealed that first, the students needed local content WordPress-based media in nreading. Second the process of developing the WordPress media ran well. Third, the quality of WordPress media for teaching reading was valid based on the results of expert judgment form and students assessment form. In conclusions, the WordPress-based Media can be the alternative learning media which is suitable with the students learning needs under the 2013 Curriculum 2018 Revision
