Abstract

The objectives of this research were first, to determine students’ learning needs for Narrative writing material, second, to know the process of product development, and third, to investigate the quality of the developing product based on 2013 curriculum. Research and Development design was used in conducting the research. Seven steps of R&D cycle by Borg and Gall (1983) was employed in product development. The steps were first, research and information collecting; second, planning; third, developing preliminary product; fourth, preliminary field testing; fifth, main product revising; sixth, main field testing; and seventh, operational product revising. The instruments used in this research were first, qualitative data which were analysed qualitatively; semi-structured interview, open-ended questionnaire. Second, quantitative data which were analysed quantitatively; expert judgement form and students’ assessment form. Accordingly, this research revealed that first, students’ worksheet was needed for Narrative writing material. Second, the processes of product development through seven steps of R&D cycle ran well. Third, the quality of the product was good and in line with 2013 curriculum. By all means, the developed product proved to be suitable with the students learning needs under 2013 curriculum 2017 revision.
