Abstract

The objectives of this research were first, to find out the students' learning needs in learning English material at tenth-grade of senior high school, second, to find out the process of developing podcast for recount text material and third to find out the appropriateness of podcast for recount text material to the tenth-grade students of senior high school. Research and development design were used in conducting the research. The researcher adopted 7 steps from Borg & Gall (1983). The 7 steps were; research and information collecting, planning, developing preliminary form of product, preliminary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, and operational product revision. Four instruments were used in this research; the students' open-ended questionnaire, Semi-structured interview, expert validation sheet, and students' assessment sheet. The students' open-ended questionnaire and semi-structured interview were employed to collect data of students' need in learning English, both instruments were analyzed qualitatively. The expert's validation sheet and students' assessment sheet were used to collect data of developing process of product and quality of product, both instruments were analyzed quantitatively by using descriptive statistics. First data analysis revealed that the students needed good quality media and ICT based in English learning. Second, the seven processes of developing product were successful. Third, the podcast is qualified and appropriate to be used. Therefore, the conclusion the podcast can be an additional teaching learning media to enrich the teaching aids for tenth grade of SMA Negeri 3 Cilegon.
