Abstract

Code switching and code mixing are the result of bilingualism. This phenomenon can be seen in the social media such as YouTube. Tasya Kamila’s YouTube is one of the YouTube channel which used code switching and code miixng. In this research, the researcher analyzed the types of code switching and code mixing used by Tasya Kamila, and also the reasons she used code switching and code mixing. This research employed qualitative research by using content analysis method. The data of this research is Tasya Kamila’s utterances in her YouTube channel. There are 12 videos in her channel, but the researcher only used 5 videos. The titles of the videos are Beasiswa LPDP Part 1 and 2, Tempat Tinggal Tasya di New York, Kegiatan Tasya Kuiah di Columbia University, and Cara Ikut Forum Internasional. The data in this research were analyzed using theories from Hoffman and Muysken. The results of this research showed only one type of code switching that appears, it is Inter sentential code switching. In the videos, Inter Sentential occurs 40 times. For the types of code mixing, she used all the types of code mixing. Insertion occurs 109 times, Alternation occurs 7 times, and Congruent Lexicalization occurs 27 times. This research also shows there are four reasons for using code switching and code mixing. The dominant reason is Talking about Particular Topics that occurs 107 times. The next reasons are Repetition Used for Clarification occurs 13 times, Being Empathic about Something occurs 7 times, and Interjections occurs 2 times.
