Abstract

Beneng Taro (Xanthosoma undipes K. Koch) is a prominent local commodity in Banten Province with strong potential as an alternative food source. Its growth is influenced by soil conditions as well as the role of soil fauna in decomposition processes and nutrient cycling. Variations in land elevation create differences in environmental conditions and soil properties, which subsequently affect the abundance and community structure of soil fauna. This study aimed to analyze the abundance and diversity of soil fauna across three land categories, namely highland, midland, and lowland areas, and to map their spatial distribution using a Geographic Information System (GIS). A quantitative descriptive method with an exploratory approach was employed. Soil fauna were collected using pitfall traps, while soil analysis included pH, organic carbon, total nitrogen, and the C/N ratio, along with environmental measurements. The data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener diversity index and the dominance index, followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at a 5% significance level to identify differences among treatments, and then visualized using ArcGIS. The results showed that the highest abundance was recorded in the midland area (67 individuals), followed by the lowland (32 individuals) and the highland (25 individuals), with Hymenoptera identified as the dominant order. Organic carbon and total nitrogen levels ranged from low to moderate, with a C/N ratio between 8 and 12. Diversity levels were categorized as low to moderate, while the highest dominance was observed in the highland area. Land elevation plays an important role in shaping soil properties and soil fauna communities, and GIS has proven to be an effective tool in supporting sustainable cultivation management.

Additional Information: Talas Beneng (Xanthosoma undipes K. Koch) merupakan komoditas lokal unggulan di Provinsi Banten dengan potensi kuat sebagai sumber pangan alternatif. Pertumbuhannya dipengaruhi oleh kondisi tanah serta peran fauna tanah dalam proses dekomposisi dan siklus nutrisi. Variasi ketinggian lahan menciptakan perbedaan kondisi lingkungan dan sifat tanah, yang selanjutnya memengaruhi kelimpahan dan struktur komunitas fauna tanah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kelimpahan dan keanekaragaman fauna tanah di tiga kategori lahan, yaitu dataran tinggi, dataran menengah, dan dataran rendah, serta memetakan distribusi spasialnya menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan eksploratif digunakan. Fauna tanah dikumpulkan menggunakan perangkap jebakan, sedangkan analisis tanah meliputi pH, karbon organik, nitrogen total, dan rasio C/N, bersama dengan pengukuran lingkungan. Data dianalisis menggunakan indeks keanekaragaman Shannon–Wiener dan indeks dominasi, diikuti dengan uji Perbedaan Signifikan Terkecil (LSD) pada tingkat signifikansi 5% untuk mengidentifikasi perbedaan antar perlakuan, dan kemudian divisualisasikan menggunakan ArcGIS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelimpahan tertinggi tercatat di daerah dataran tengah (67 individu), diikuti oleh dataran rendah (32 individu) dan dataran tinggi (25 individu), dengan Hymenoptera diidentifikasi sebagai ordo yang dominan. Kadar karbon organik dan nitrogen total berkisar dari rendah hingga sedang, dengan rasio C/N antara 8 dan 12. Tingkat keanekaragaman dikategorikan sebagai rendah hingga sedang, sedangkan dominasi tertinggi diamati di daerah dataran tinggi. Ketinggian lahan memainkan peran penting dalam membentuk sifat tanah dan komunitas fauna tanah, dan GIS telah terbukti menjadi alat yang efektif dalam mendukung pengelolaan budidaya berkelanjutan.
