Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the benefits and challenges that the students experience while using tutorial video on YouTube and to find out the improvement of students’ writing of procedural text. For this research, the researcher used qualitative case-study research design and thematic analysis for identifying, analyzing, classifying, describing, and summarizing themes present in a data set. The sample of this research was class 8F with total 36 students as the sample, and the researcher used purposive sampling. The data collecting technique used in this research was observation, interview, and documentation. Based on findings, it is found that tutorial video is beneficial for procedure text composition, students also experienced challenges in language translation, incomplete information, and relevancy issue. Furthermore, there were improvement on students’ procedure text: the clarity of writing, detail, grammar, score, and vocabulary. Thus, the researcher concludes that tutorial video on YouTube is useful in improving students’ writing of procedural text.
