Abstract
Background: Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis often experience excessive thirst due to fluid intake restrictions, which can reduce patient comfort and adherence. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of ice cube therapy on the level of thirst in patients with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis at RSUD Adjidarmo. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 34 respondents were selected using purposive sampling. Thirst levels were measured using the Thirst Distress Scale (TDS) before and after the administration of ice cube therapy. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: The findings showed a statistically significant reduction in thirst levels after the administration of ice cube therapy, with a p-value < 0.05. Conclusion: Ice cube therapy is effective in reducing thirst among patients with ESRD undergoing hemodialysis. Recommendation: Ice cube therapy is recommended as a routine non-pharmacological nursing intervention, and further studies are suggested to use experimental designs with control groups to strengthen the scientific evidence.

| Additional Information: | Latar belakang: Pasien End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) yang menjalani hemodialisis sering mengalami rasa haus berlebih akibat pembatasan asupan cairan, yang dapat menurunkan kenyamanan dan kepatuhan pasien. Tujuan: Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh terapi ice cube terhadap tingkat rasa haus pada pasien ESRD yang menjalani hemodialisis di RSUD Adjidarmo. Metode: Penelitian menggunakan desain pre-experimental dengan pendekatan one group pretest–posttest. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 34 responden yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Tingkat rasa haus diukur menggunakan Thirst Distress Scale (TDS) sebelum dan sesudah pemberian terapi ice cube. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji paired t-test dengan tingkat signifikansi α = 0,05. Hasil: Penelitian menunjukkan adanya penurunan tingkat rasa haus yang bermakna setelah pemberian terapi ice cube dengan nilai p-value < 0,05. Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini adalah terapi ice cube efektif dalam menurunkan rasa haus pada pasien ESRD yang menjalani hemodialisis. Saran: Agar terapi ice cube dapat diterapkan sebagai intervensi keperawatan nonfarmakologis rutin dan penelitian selanjutnya menggunakan desain eksperimental dengan kelompok kontrol untuk memperkuat bukti ilmiah. | |||||||||
