Abstract

Biology subjects often require high visualization skills, especially in microscopic materials such as cells and tissues. However, Most of students face difficulties in understanding these concepts due to limited laboratory facilities and the use of static textbooks. This study aims to develop and test the validity of an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning application, as well as to measure its effectiveness in improving student understanding. The research method used was quantitative with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 61 students of Class XI IPA divided into two groups: the control group using textbooks and the experimental group using the AR application. Validation results by Biology teachers indicated that the application is valid in terms of material quality, interface, and usability. Based on student testing, the control group obtained an average score improvement of 35 points (final score 91.3), while the experimental group obtained an increase of 26 points with a slightly higher final average score of 92. Furthermore, the User Acceptance Test (UAT) result showed an average score of 4.57 with a "Very Good" predicate. It is concluded that the developed AR application is valid, effective in helping students visualize abstract biological concepts into concrete ones, and successfully implemented according to learning needs.

Additional Information: Mata pelajaran Biologi seringkali menuntut kemampuan visualisasi yang tinggi, terutama pada materi mikroskopis seperti sel dan jaringan. Namun, kebanyakan siswa mengalami kesulitan memahami materi tersebut karena keterbatasan fasilitas laboratorium dan penggunaan media buku teks yang statis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membangun dan menguji validitas aplikasi media pembelajaran berbasis Augmented Reality (AR), serta mengukur efektivitasnya dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain pretest-posttest control group. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 61 siswa kelas XI IPA yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok: kelompok kontrol yang menggunakan buku paket dan kelompok eksperimen yang menggunakan aplikasi AR. Hasil validasi oleh guru Biologi menunjukkan bahwa aplikasi dinyatakan valid dari segi kualitas materi, tampilan, dan kemudahan penggunaan. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian siswa, kelompok kontrol memperoleh peningkatan skor rata-rata sebesar 35 poin (skor akhir 91,3), sedangkan kelompok eksperimen memperoleh peningkatan sebesar 26 poin dengan skor akhir rata-rata yang sedikit lebih tinggi yaitu 92. Selain itu, hasil User Acceptance Test (UAT) menunjukkan skor rata-rata 4,57 dengan predikat "Sangat Baik". Disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi AR yang dibangun valid, efektif dalam membantu siswa memvisualisasikan konsep biologi yang abstrak menjadi konkret, serta dapat diimplementasikan dengan baik sesuai kebutuhan pembelajaran.
