Abstract
The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on self-achievement had increasingly emerged among university students along with the intensive use of social media, particularly Instagram. Exposure to peers’ academic and non-academic achievement posts had encouraged continuous self-comparison and behavioral adjustment in order to avoid being left behind. This condition had created social pressure that potentially influenced students’ adaptation within the educational environment. Therefore, the effect of self-achievement FoMO on the adaptation of Sociology Education students at Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University who used Instagram was examined. A quantitative approach with a descriptive method was employed. The research population consisted of 327 Sociology Education students, with 77 respondents selected using a specific sampling technique. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and were analyzed using SPSS version 27. The analysis included prerequisite tests and simple linear regression analysis. Jacques Lacan’s theory of Desire was used as the conceptual framework to understand students’ subjective drives toward self-achievement. The results indicated that self-achievement FoMO had a strong and positive influence on student adaptation, as reflected by a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.780. The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.608, indicating that 60.8% of the variation in student adaptation was explained by self-achievement FoMO, while the remaining 39.2% was influenced by other factors outside this study. Furthermore, a regression coefficient (B) of 0.745 with a significance value of p < 0.001 indicated a positive and significant effect of self-achievement FoMO on student adaptation.

| Additional Information: | Fenomena Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) pencapaian diri semakin menguat di kalangan mahasiswa seiring dengan intensitas penggunaan media sosial, khususnya Instagram. Paparan unggahan pencapaian akademik maupun non-akademik teman sebaya mendorong mahasiswa untuk terus membandingkan diri dan menyesuaikan perilaku agar tidak tertinggal. Kondisi ini memunculkan tekanan sosial yang berpotensi memengaruhi cara mahasiswa beradaptasi dalam lingkungan pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh FoMO pencapaian diri terhadap adaptasi mahasiswa Pendidikan Sosiologi Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa pengguna Instagram. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 327 mahasiswa Pendidikan Sosiologi Untirta, dengan sampel sebanyak 77 responden yang ditentukan melalui teknik simple random sampling. Data dikumpulkan menggunakan kuesioner daring dan dianalisis menggunakan perangkat lunak SPSS versi 27. Analisis data meliputi uji prasyarat analisis dan uji regresi linear sederhana, dengan teori Hasrat (Desire) Jacques Lacan sebagai kerangka teori dalam memahami dorongan subjektif individu terhadap pencapaian diri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa FoMO pencapaian diri memiliki pengaruh yang kuat dan positif terhadap adaptasi mahasiswa, dengan nilai koefisien korelasi (R) sebesar 0,780. Nilai koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,608 menunjukkan bahwa FoMO pencapaian diri berkontribusi sebesar 60,8% terhadap variasi adaptasi mahasiswa, sedangkan 39,2% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain di luar penelitian ini. Selain itu, nilai koefisien regresi (B) sebesar 0,745 dengan tingkat signifikansi p < 0,001 (p < 0,05) menegaskan bahwa FoMO pencapaian diri berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap adaptasi mahasiswa. | |||||||||
